Professional Background

With more than 25 years of experience in building inspection, code compliance, historic preservation, housing rehabilitation, ordinance development, and municipal consulting, I provide independent advisory services for property owners, contractors, municipalities, preservation organizations, and investors.

My career has combined field inspection, municipal administration, ordinance development, historic preservation, education, and community revitalization, providing a broad understanding of both modern regulatory requirements and traditional building practices.

City of Hastings, Minnesota

Responsibilities included:

  • Conducting residential and commercial property inspections
  • Investigating code compliance concerns
  • Enforcing municipal ordinances
  • Assisting property owners in understanding and meeting regulatory requirements
  • Conducting commercial, residential, rental, and property maintenance inspections

Major accomplishments:

  • Developed and implemented the City's Rental Housing Inspection Program in accordance with City ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Code (ICC-IPMC)
  • Designed inspection procedures, compliance standards, documentation systems, and administrative processes for the program
  • Advised the City Council regarding housing policy, vulnerable housing, historic structures, neighborhood preservation, and code enforcement issues
